Why Macrobiotic?

And why not?


You already know a little bit about me, where it all started and who influenced my choices, and if you don't know, go to the beginning and click where it says ABOUT .

But first, what is Macrobiotics really?

A Philosophy, a diet, a way of living and being in Life? Being Macrobiotic is Being Free, but being aware of what is around you and knowing that even if you want to, you cannot change everything, everyone and the World, but you can change yourself. As a result of our learning and our transformation, we influence those around us, but that already happens, with or without the word Macrobiotic. When I started this trip, I had no idea what this Philosophy of Life was, or who represented it. But I launched myself with my eyes closed. I know this may sound crazy and out of a movie just to embellish this article, but it wasn't like that at all. I clearly remember talking to one of the daughters of the owners of IMP (Instituto Macrobiotic de Portugal) and she told me to go to the institute, and I did, I loved the energy of that place, I felt JOY, LOVE, EMPATHY, and best of all I felt that I had to enroll in the Macrobiotic Cooking Course to discover the foundations of this new philosophy. And as I told you, I launched myself with my eyes closed without knowing what it was or what it was for, but at that moment I was in full contact with myself and I knew it was the right thing, to take a risk and go. Really, what could go wrong? Not liking or not feeling identified? Ok there is no stress, these are life experiences!


I already know what you must be imagining! Do you think I joined a true cult? My FAMILY thought so too (laughs). When I told my circle of family and friends that I had signed up for "Macrobiotics", they filled my head saying that I was crazy and that it was a cult, that I would get sick from eating strange things and not eating meat or dairy products. I don't blame them for that, in reality, Human Beings are afraid of the unknown and everything that goes outside the "normal", of what contemporary society has proclaimed as the right thing to do, is seen as strange and that can bring complications to life . But in this case, I would not harm others with my decision to train and inform myself on an unknown topic, so I continued on.


Curiosity

Let me tell you something, I always had a lot of trouble putting on weight and I already took it for granted that I would be "Pele e Osso" forever. Everyone told me, "You're too skinny!", "Have you been eating?", "Be careful, don't forget to eat", but what they didn't realize was that I ate, I ate EVERYTHING and I didn't get fat for nothing. Today I know why, I know that I have a very fast metabolism and everything I eat is transformed quickly. What I didn't know was that eating healthy things could put on weight in a healthy way.


So it was, when I started macrobiotics, I explained my situation to some professors at the Institute and they told me that although the Macrobiotic diet is much easier to lose weight, it is possible to gain weight in a healthy and targeted way.


With their guidance, I managed to gain weight (increase muscle mass) in a healthy way, without having that tire, or abdominal swelling, in fact I had more weight, but I had a flat stomach as always!


It was at that moment that those around me saw that it was possible, with different orientations than we are used to, to change for the better! I have to admit that at that moment, I made radical changes in my life, such as giving up meat, sugar and dairy. Only by making these changes will you see that you will feel different, for the better. But it is also normal that at first you feel frustrated, with headaches, even with intestinal discharges, but remember that these are normal functions that your body has to discharge all the excesses that you have done throughout your life.
